08:38 pm - links in urxvt
i've always known that rxvt-unicode had a built in perl parser that lets you do all kinds of crap, but i never really looked into it until yesterday when i was checking if the tab rendering in urxvt was anywhere near as good as mrxvt yet (PS - it isn't). after emerging dev-perl/gtk2-perl and adding a couple simple lines to ~/.Xdefaults...

URxvt.perl-ext-common: default,matcher
URxvt.urlLauncher: firefox
URxvt.matcher.button: 1

...i now have groovy clickable links in irssi.

the whole config, as always, is here

I have added
URxvt*cutchars: `"()'*<>[]{|}
URxvt.matcher.pattern.1: \\bwww\\.[\\w-]\\.[\\w./?&@#-]*[\\w/-]

so that URLs won't break on some 'special' chars

Y'know, by default, all URLs are clickable in gnome-terminal and xfce-extra/terminal -- and they of course work in terminal apps such as irssi. And unicode works right out of the box with those terms, too; no need to emerge a "special unicode edition" of your term. :p Though links are only hilighted when you hover the mouse over 'em. And left-clicking to launch 'em in a browser doesn't work; you have to right click and select "open in browser" or whatever it is from the context menu.

Not that I would think about swaying you from your urvxt usage. Oh, no. This is Gentoo. No matter how many alternatives there are, with some elbow grease (some more than others!), you can make your choice do what you want it to do. ;)

Why did you need to merge dev-perl/gtk2-perl? IIRC all you need is the "perl" USE flag enabled for x11-terms/rxvt-unicode to use the URL matcher.

Hey, I use the matcher thing since a long time now, and I noticed there is something wrong: when there is a link beginning with 'www.' it is underlined but not clickable; that really sucks. Do you have the same problem? btw I have not merged dev-perl/gtk2-perl do I really need this?
