This book is awesome. Though he keeps calling it the "X Window System". Close enough; I'm just happy they cover Unix at all. ;)

You know it is called the "X Window System", it always has been called that. Read the first line of www.x.org

The X Window System is the historical name for the windowing system that is used with unix, although there are also ports for other operating systems.

Calling it that is the one version which is even expressly forbidden. X Window System, X11, X Version 11, X11R6 are all fine.
Just don't use that s! ;)
