10:13 am took the day off sick today. i've been feeling rough the last couple weeks but today i'm dizzy as hell and everytime i stand up i get the twisty headache of dooooooooooooooom.
so i went back downstairs after calling in and discovered my laptop had fried overnight. after a couple of bad reboots it seems to be up again, though half the keyboard doesn't work. i have two months left in a two year warranty so i'll be making a trip to staples this week. knowing them, i'll have to send it halfway across the country for 6 months to get it fixed. (and it'll probably come back with windows installed). in the meantime i guess i'll have to set up a head on the desktop and move over there. or maybe just buy a new laptop... hmm.
i have kde 3.5.9 running on mips. i'm checking some of the more obscure USE flag combos out before i do some more testing and finally keyword it. yesterday i got hal and friends keyworded, though the USE flag is still masked until i do yet more testing there. i decided to set up FreeNX for remote X sessions yesterday and it works great. i wish i would have thought of doing this before.

the rest of the day will be spent on the couch reading, sleeping, and playing PS3.

Nice work. My quest in life is to get KDE 3 or 4 running on the PS2. Just so I can say I did it, of course. (-; Impossible, you say? I've nearly got GCC 4 working (outside Linux) so I'm part of the way there.
Wouldn't it be nicer to your MIPS if you ran Xfce or some/anything lighter than KDE?
Also, how long does it take to install the KDE (meta)package of your choice, from scratch?

for sure, i'm planning on running something a lot lighter. haven't decided what yet though. right now i'm just doing some keywording since the kde team finally got fed up and dropped mips a few months ago. after this is done i'll move on to doing gnome, who got fed up way before kde. :P i posted some build times in my lastest post: http://psykil.livejournal.com/322105.html
Thanks for the merge times. Man, even my ancient supposedly worst-pile-of-crap-ever Toshiba laptop w/1ghz Pentium3 is outperforming your MIPS in most (all?) areas. Dang. I guess I shouldn't knock my own I/O so much!
I didn't know KDE was dropped; I do recall from old conversations with Kumba and Redhatter that KDE was about the only DE left for MIPS, since I remember when they decided not to worry about Gnome and (some) gtk+ stuff. Hopefully you can make Xfce a reality, too. At some point. :)

I suppose we can try to minimize the amount of eautoreconf's in GNOME and such if they are very bad (just patching configure and Makefile.in's too in the build patches). Let me know if there's some improvement possibilities :)
